Domestic & General – Space Invader x Wagstaff

Location

Wimbledon, London

A full office overhaul coinciding with the pandemic lead Domestic & General to rethink their workplace strategy. What was once described as a very traditional and somewhat rigid office, it was decided that they needed to create a space where people wanted to come and spend their time. This is where they enlisted the help of Space Invader, a architectural practice based in Manchester, to help them bring this vision to life.

Since the pandemic, the rise in flexible and hybrid working has completely changed the way people use offices, there is now a need for companies to create a reason for their employees to come back to work, as well as attracting potential new staff members. This has forced the transition from old fashioned rows of desks with dividers, to open plan offices with different styles of workspaces and is something that Space Invader focussed on D&G office redesign.

In the heart of the floorplan sees a lounge area, where staff can retreat to when they need a break, spend their lunchtime in comfort or make a call. Throughout the rest of the office is home to a variety of classic workstations, meeting rooms and break out areas; ensuring that there is something that suits for every task and employee. A selection of our products were used within breakout areas, the Home sofa was placed throughout the scheme to offer comfort, paired with the Margin coffee table and playful stools offers a really flexible, fun space for D&G’s employees to use. Our Relic Cloud was selected for the canteen area, the large table allows for easy flowing conversation between staff at lunchtime, the canopy over the Relic Cloud creates a statement by incorporating biophilia. The whole office design includes over 400 different plants, which provides endless benefits to the workplace, such as enhancing air quality and improving employee wellbeing.

The overall space has been meticulously designed to offer an agile office that works for all team members and easily adapts to suit the endless combination of people that will use the space.
