Sustainability

As a furniture designer and manufacturer, we understand our operations have a far-reaching impact on the environment. This is something as individuals and as a business we take seriously.

What have we achieved so far?

The following information is only applicable to our UK business.

  • The vast majority of our timber products are certified FSC®– C134751. This means you can trust the materials have originated from sustainable and legal sources. (Chain of custody needs to be requested at time of order). Please contact us if you’d like further information about our FSC® certified products.
  • All of our products are all tested to ensure they contain zero harmful VOCs and are therefore accredited as SCS Indoor Advantage Gold. Read more about it here
  • Our waste chipboard is re-used to heat factories and old metalwork recycled
  • All our waste that is generated is measured and monitored. We have targets set to increase our recycling percentage as a proportion of total waste generated through our business
  • All Frovi powder coating has an Environmental Product Declaration certificate due to the low energy and temperate curing process that we use
  • We adhere to the ISO14001 Environmental Management System
  • We are a registered member of the Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme (FISP)
  • We use water-based lacquers to stain and finish our products

Frövi Environmental Accreditations

All of our products are now certified SCS Indoor Advantage™ Gold.

FSC®-C134751 and FISP certified

Forests provide the timber that is widely used in the furniture industry. But illegal logging leads to deforestation, loss of biodiversity, poor forest management and a negative impact on the people and countries producing this resource.

Responsible forest management is key to sustaining forests for the future. The Forest Stewardship Council® is the leading and most credible certification for timber products.

All our timber is certified FSC®– C134751. This means you can trust the materials have originated from sustainable and legal sources. (Chain of custody needs to be requested at time of order).

We are also registered with the FISP regulatory body, which is recognised as the benchmark for sustainable practices in the UK furniture industry.

Frövi is committed to ever increasing product quality standards. Many Frövi products are tested to international standard (ISO, BSEN) at recognised test facilities, such as FIRA, SATRA and CATAS, to ensure that they are safe and suitable for use in the contract environment.

Certificates, where relevant, are available on request – [email protected]

Sustainable packaging

80% of our packaging is cardboard, of which 80% is from recyclable sources and 20% from virgin material.
All our cardboard is 100% recyclable at end of life.
We use adhesive paper packaging tape that can be recycled too.

Policies

Our policies underpin Frövi’s commitment and approach to responsibly managing our impacts on, and relationships with, our people, customers, communities and environment. They set out our values and behaviours that are required to make Frövi a trusted, positive and successful brand.

Processes

We believe it is our obligation to consider all aspects of waste impact throughout a products life cycle, from raw material selection through to sustainable production methods, as well as the reduction of waste and pollution in all our manufacturing processes.

Through thoughtful consideration of our future designs, this ensures that they will stand the impact of time and limits the amount of waste that goes into our environment.

Materials that matter

We take a considered approach in the design stages to the materials we use and our manufacturing processes.

Using resources sparingly to ensure they are kept in use for as long as possible before being reused or recycled as new products.

Our design team allocate a lot of their time to supporting a circular use of materials and reducing the embodied carbon that is emitted during production; from sourcing sustainable fabrics, to eco-conscious and recycled raw materials.

Bamboo

Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants available, taking less than a year to grow back after harvest. It is a highly efficient absorber of environmental carbon dioxide which also makes it a healthy option for furniture.

Recycled plastics

By utilising plastic recycled from the ocean and domestic appliances, we can save non-biodegradable plastic from entering landfills; or even worse, the natural environment.

Rebar

Known for its strength and to grip onto concrete in the construction industry, Rebar is also made from 98% recycled steel which creates a raw simplicity and uncompromising edginess, to ‘industrial look’ workspaces.

Cork

Cork is harvested from the bark of the tree every 9 to 12 years which causes no harm to the tree, which not only looks unique but also helps your business work towards carbon-neutral goals.

Powder coating

Our specially designed powder coatings are cured at lower oven temperatures, which provides many sustainability benefits compared to other powder coating methods, including reduced energy usage and reduced waste generation, lowering our overall carbon footprint.

Sustainable fabrics

Choose naturally sustainable textile solutions from our fabric band selections that are manufactured to protect both the environment and users.

Felt

Our felt is made from 66% recycled plastic bottles, saving it from ending up in the ocean or landfill. It can also be pressed into a rigid 3D form without the use of glues or resins.

Our sustainable journey

We believe it is our obligation to meet the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations and the planet’s precious resources. Here are a few of the steps our team will be focussing on over the next year:

  • Investing in lesser-known materials with environmental benefits
  • A circular life-cycle design process with our new products and redeveloping the old
  • Working towards carbon neutrality and creating our own net zero plan
