From concept to creation… the Trost chair

Modern, flexible workspaces have generated a need for attractive, hybrid chairs that boast comfort while remaining easy to maneuver within busy environments.

The user experience is of the utmost importance, and ultimately dictates the success of any furniture piece. Think of your favourite chair at home. It probably features soft seating, padded arms and a high back for the ultimate in neck and back comfort.

With this in mind, we thought we’d give you an insight into the design process of our Trost chair.

From inception, our design team’s objective was to create a unique product with sculpted organic forms that was every bit as comfortable as it looked, whilst ensuring it could seamlessly blend into multiple environments, including commercial, hospitality and residential.

The main challenges we faced with the Trost design involved a suitable balance of elements. With this being a statement chair, comfort was paramount through soft inflated, segmented forms, whilst ensuring the cushions complemented the arms. In turn, our material considerations were reviewed to provide a unique product whilst maintaining as much sustainability as possible.

Once our initial designs had been finalised, we started a process of choosing who we should partner with to further develop the Trost chair.

With expectations as high as ours, it is never rapid or straightforward selecting a working partner. We always have to be certain that our vision is shared and executed to the highest degree. Once we were satisfied that we had found a match, we worked together through the in-depth development of both the construction and individual parts of the chair.

Over the course of a year, we analysed, adjusted and tweaked 3D prints and foam models with varying densities before creating moulds for a production sample.

From here, we moved to arguably the most delicate aspect of all, the production of an efficient yet unique upholstery technique, which plays an important part in the comfort of the Trost.

The final outcome…

With a soft, enveloping nature, Trost is ideal for breakout areas where staff can take a few moments to relax in comfort.

That said, its durable nature allows it to be easily moved to numerous environments with the promise of longevity. Available in both high and low versions, Trost is designed with moulded foam for the ultimate in comfort. From the soft seat to the arms, users can sink back into a statement chair that will not fail to deliver.

Its Natural Oak and Black Oak finishes complement any existing workspace design.

And if that hasn’t convinced you, even our choice of name for the chair is inspired by the Swedish word for ‘comforting’, which is also a nod to the Scandinavian style influence.
